It may be the end of an era, but it's also a new beginning at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney World Is Closing Another Beloved Attraction—but There’s a Catch

For the most magical place on Earth, 2025 is a year of big changes. First, Walt Disney World announced that Thunder Mountain would be closed for the entire year. And now the park’s famed Hollywood Studios is getting a major makeover.
That’s right: It’s out with the old and in with the new as the theme park shutters a beloved attraction to make way for a brand-new land. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will never be the same.
Keep reading to find out which attractions are closing and which new land is heading to Disney World in the near future.

Which attractions are closing?
For Muppets fans around the world, it’s the end of an era. After 33 years, MuppetVision 3D will be permanently closing its doors at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
Since Jim Henson first introduced them in 1950, the Muppets have been charming fans around the globe. They won us over on the small screen, the silver screen and, of course, in the Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios. The attraction offered a dose of nostalgia for park-goers who grew up with the adorably quirky characters, and it introduced the Muppets to younger generations.
MuppetVision 3D was one of the last projects Henson worked on before his untimely passing in 1990, and the attraction marks one of the last times Henson voiced Kermit the Frog.
What is happening to MuppetVision 3D?
Don’t say your goodbyes to the Muppets just yet! Even though MuppetVision 3D is closing, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of their friends won’t be moving far. The beloved group of colorful characters is headed just down the road to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, where they will replace Aerosmith as the ride’s headlining act. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is located only a short walk away from where MuppetVision 3D currently resides, in the Sunset Boulevard area of the park.
“We know so many of you share our love for the Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” the company said in a press release.
Perhaps most exciting of all, this will mark the first time a Disney ride has ever featured Henson’s beloved characters.
What is happening to the Muppets Courtyard?
With every ending comes a new beginning, and as you bid farewell to MuppetVision 3D, get ready to welcome a whole new land to Hollywood Studios. Instead of Muppets Courtyard, you’ll soon be able to visit Monsters, Inc. Land, which is based on a modern classic—yep, Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. The new arrival is the main reason the park is shuttering MuppetVision 3D.
So what will this new land offer Disney fans? Aside from dining options, shopping and an exciting original theater show, it will be home to Monstropolous, the first-ever suspended roller coaster from Disney. Remember the iconic door-vault scene from Monsters, Inc.? Well, now park-goers have the chance to recreate it.
When are the changes happening?
MuppetVision 3D will close on June 7 this year. PizzeRizzo will also close that day, while nearby Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will close a month earlier, on May 10. There’s still no closing date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future,” the company said in the press release.
If you have the chance, book a Disney vacation this spring to check out MuppetVision 3D. Be sure to take a stroll through the Muppets Courtyard one last time before the iconic attraction takes its final bow.
